Newsletter 2010 and the farewall message from Olena Boytsun

ACP [Thu Jul 22nd, 14:09]

Dear ACP member,
Please find below the ACP Board Newsletter #2/2010 and the previous ACP Board Newsletter #1/2010.

It happened so that I should also include a farewell message there.

Olena Boytsun At the beginning of July 2010 I notified the ACP Board that I will no longer be able to act as the ACP Secretary and the ACP Board member since the 22th of July 2010, and so this day came. I joined the ACP Board in 2008 and enjoyed our team work very much as well as the communication with ACP members. I would like to thank all Board members and all ACP members for this.

My main fields of activities at the ACP were the following:

- ACP-FIDE relations – I am glad to report that in April 2010 FIDE accepted the proposition of the ACP to include the representative of the ACP Board into the FIDE Presidential Board without voting rights. During 2009-2010 I was the representative of the ACP to FIDE, and my opinion is that it is important to cooperate with FIDE on professional matters.

- Marketing and PR for the ACP – I developed promotion materials for the ACP, such as the presentation for sponsors and wider audience, Facebook Group, Twitter, press releases, informational articles etc.

- Communication with ACP members through the ACP Board Newsletter and opinion polls.

I find the aims of the ACP important and hope that I could contribute to the development of the organization.

Although I am leaving the ACP Board, I still will be the ACP member and still will be connected to chess. Since June 2010 I am working as the Marketing Director of the Ukrainian Chess Federation. The work is very interesting and requires a lot of time and energy, and therefore I took the decision to leave.

Please, enjoy the Newsletters and always feel free to drop me a line at olena@marketingchess.com

Best,
Olena Boytsun

Report on the ACP Tour and ACP Women Series 2009-2010

ACP News [Sun Jul 11th, 17:58]

Both final tournaments of the ACP Tour and ACP Women Series 2009 - 2010 have been completed in the first days of July. Vasily Ivanchuk emerged as the winner for the second time after the edition 2007 - 2008. He gathered 2897 points in ten events. Curiously enough, two players finished joint second with 2340 points! Levon Aronian reached this score out of eleven tournaments, while Vladimir Kramnik needed only six. As usual, the first 13 places of the final standings qualify to the next ACP World Rapid Cup.

The race in the Women Series has been dominated by the Kosintseva sisters. Thanks to her second place at the recent FIDE Grand Prix in Jermuk, Tatiana eventually edged out Nadezhda, and repeated her success of the Second Women Series. She scored a total of 2232 points out of nine tournaments, while her sister came to 2172 out of nine events as well. Anna Muzychuk ended third with 1803 points out of seven tournaments. The first 8 players of the final standings qualify to the Second ACP Women World Rapid Cup.

Whereas the Rules of the 4th ACP Women Series 2010-11 remain the same, the Rules of the 7th ACP Tour 2010-11 have been slightly modified. In view of the increasing number of tournaments rated as Level A, the ACP Board decided to create a new level. The so-called Super Level will apply to tournaments whose strength exceeds 2725 according to the ACP scale. Consequently, the tables of the ACP Points System have been adjusted at some places. Everything can be checked at http://www.chess-players.org/eng/tour/tour_2010/rules.html

ACP Membership Fee 2009

ACP News [Fri Dec 18th, 11:53]

Dear ACP members,

We kindly remind you that the deadline for the annual payment of the membership fee is 31st of December 2009.

The results of players who failed to pay their membership fee before the deadline will not be counted for the ACP Tour and Women Series 2008-2009.

The ACP Board has taken the following decision concerning membership fees.

Starting from the year 2009, ACP members will be able to pay their fees for two or three years in advance. In case they wish to do so, they will benefit from the following discount:

- ACP membership fee for 1 year: 30 euros (as before)
- ACP membership fee for 2 years: 55 euros (instead of 60)
- ACP membership fee for 3 years: 80 euros (instead of 90)

For new members, the ACP fee is still at 50 euros for the first year. But they too can benefit from the discount, if they wish to pay in advance:
75 euros for 2 years (instead of 80), or 100 euros for 3 years (instead of 110).

This measure should ease the task of the Treasurer and reward trusting members.

ACP News [Thu Dec 10th, 12:12]

Alexandra Kosteniuk wins the First ACP Women World Rapid Cup!

CONGRATULATIONS!

All details on http://womenrapid2009.tsf.org.tr/

ACP Board

Alexandra shares the following impressions about the ACP Women Rapid Cup and the ACP in general:

I am glad that I was able to change my schedule at relatively short notice to be able to fly to Turkey and take place in this great tournament. I was attracted by the prestige of the event and by the strong competition taking part, such as GM's Pia Cramling and Monika Socko, the sisters Tatiana and Nadezhda Kosintseva (Tatiana is GM, Nadezhda is IM), of course the very solid Viktorija Cmilyte, Natalia Zhukova, and Lela Javakhishvili, and some more good players. I knew the level would be very high and that I would have to give it my best. At the end, I am very satisfied with my 10/11, which corresponds to a performance of 2746 ELO! I made a full report about the tournament on my blog at http://www.chessblog.com/2009/12/kosteniuk-wins-first-acp-women-world.html
