Kiril Georgiev answers the ACP questions
The FIDE elections are coming. Which candidate do you support?
I haven’t thought about it (pause). I would prefer not to answer this question, if you don’t mind. I am not yet familiar with official position of the Bulgarian chess federation, and I do not want to discuss this matter.
What is your attitude to the suggested “2700 Rule”, which makes a player rated 2700 and above, who secured the required prize fund and was approved by FIDE, eligible to challenge the world champion between scheduled matches?
This is a positive change. The rule reminds the London rules a bit, when Capablanca said, anyone who finds a proper prize fund can challenge him. On the one hand, it is good, on the other hand – not many people can find two million dollars to challenge the champion... But in general I support this rule.
What could be done to promote and popularize chess?
I think Internet tournaments is the future of chess. Chess should also be advertised on TV.
Do you play chess in the Internet?
Yes, I took part in Dos Hermanos Internet tournament and in a number or blitz tournaments. This is indeed the future of chess, we only need to find a good mechanism against cheating, a perfect method that would distinguish between fair and unfair players.
What do you expect from the ACP this year?
I am not a member of the ACP yet – I am waiting for them to create good tournaments. Earlier I was a member of the GMA and other professional unions, and they all collapsed before my eyes. So this time I decided to wait...
