OlimpBase, the online encyclopaedia of international team events
ACP [Fri Dec 28th, 17:20]OlimpBase, the online encyclopaedia of international team events, was
launched in 2004, and soon became widely known and renowned source of
information on team chess. Although originally it dealt merely with the
history of the chess olympiads - from which idea it took its name - it
grew quickly due to high pressure from the readers on adding new events
into the database. Nowadays it provides detailed information on more than
300 tournaments, and still fast growing, from 1900s until today.
The database provides details on more than 30 types of events including
a.o. the Olympiads, World & continental team events, all sorts of junior
events (including complete set of the legendary Student Olympiads), club
events, Balkaniads, Mitropa Cup, Clare Benedicts, Oxford-Cambridge
varsities, blind olympiads, world's most complete list of friendlies,
national team champions and many, many more.
OlimpBase is fully independent project financed from private funds and it
has no relation neither to FIDE nor to any other third party. It is freely
available for use to anyone.
Still, there are a lot of unsolved mysteries, and everyone might possibly
help, either sending the bulletins or providing contacts to people owing
old tournament books. Join the community of circa 300 chess lovers whose
work and dedication lead to spectacular growth of OlimpBase archives. Dig
up old, dust covered bulletins from your attic and share them with the
world! It really pays to make a one time effort and then enjoy its effects
forever. You should not forget to visit www.olimpbase.org regularly and check WHAT'S NEW section every week. Enjoy!
OlimpBase was founded and is webmastered by the Pole Wojciech Bartelski,
b.1977. In early 1990s he was Polonia Warsaw's B-class junior player. A
long term local councilman, in 2006 he was appointed full-time as mayor of
downtown Warsaw.
