ACP Board [Sun Jul 12th, 10:01]The 5th ACP Tour 2008-2009 and the 2nd ACP Women Series 2008-2009 ended together with the World Open on July 6th 2009.
72 individual tournaments and 7 team events have been included in the 5th ACP Tour. The winner of the season is the Armenian Levon Aronian ! He gathered 2799 ACP points out of only 7 tournaments. His two clear victories at the Grand-Prix tournaments in Sochi and Nalchik played an important part in this success, as they each earned him 840 points. Dmitry Jakovenko (Rus) and last-year winner Vasily Ivanchuk (Ukr) finish 2nd and 3rd with 2519 points and 2447 points respectively. The 13 best players have thus qualified for the next ACP Masters. The Final Standings can be found at www.chess-players.org/eng/tour/tour_2008/standings.html
The 2nd Women Series gathered 11 events, not mentioning all tournaments of the ACP Tour where women players can earn points as well. Russian players clearly dominated the season, as they occupy the four first places of the Final Standings: www.chess-players.org/eng/tour/tour_2008/standings_wom.html
The winner is Tatiana Kosintseva with 1730 ACP points out of 6 events. Her compatriots Alexandra Kosteniuk and Natalia Pogonina come 2nd and 3rd with 976 and 883 points respectively. The battle for the crucial 8th place was hard-fought, as Lela Javakhishvili eventually edged out Monika Socko by just a few points.
The ACP Board would like to send its warm wishes to the winners and to congratulate all competitors.
